CF 42. Fastback. Manual. Reg. Nos. PNT 553 G & YPF 428 G

CF42 sold at Silverstone Auctions on 4 November 2011 for a reported price of £136,400:

Auction description: "This quite superb example was first registered to a Mr Barry Jacobs of Surrey on 24th June 1969. The original buff log book details the mere five owners since new and confirms that this 428 was delivered new to the UK. Believed to be one of only six manual examples originally manufactured, 'YPF428G' offers bills, receipts and MoT test certificates dating back to the 1980s. These include services invoices for an engine rebuild in 1988. More recently, the current owner has overhauled and rebuilt the braking system and maintained the car in sound mechanical order. The body has certainly been painted, most likely in the 1980s, and remains in good order. With recent 428 prices increasing rapidly, this example represents excellent value for money in a climate that sees only a limited number coming onto the open market and even fewer in manual specification."

"That looks like my old car which makes it CF42, I can't see what other car it could possibly be in that rare specification ( manual gearbox with knock on Wolfrace ) from 1969. Looks like the registration number has been changed again and the colour also changed again from a not very nice Orangey Red ( which was done after I sold her ) to Burgundy, probably in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Great to see she is still around!"

"The first fastback I owned was in the early 1980's and was CF42 PNT 553G. I bought it non-running and half restored and tinkered about in my spare time for a couple of years rebuilding the brakes and suspension and getting the engine running and the cooling system re-installed. The front end had all new panelling but the sills were the original slightly curved ones with the built-in jacking points which inevitably get replaced with the wrong profile sills during restorations and the jacking points removed or covered. The interior was immaculate original and the car was indeed a 4-speed manual. The rear wheel arches needed rebuilding and I had to sell the car as I run out of money. The original colour was Silver with Black leather but the gentleman that bought it had the car finished and painted an orangey red ( he brought it to show to me ) ! The car disappeared from sight in the 1980's and I've never heard or seen of it again."
